So to start off my summer with a big bang myself and my friend Stacie saw the musical I am just in love with Spring Awakening!!! I saw the show in New York twice, once in September and a second time on January 18th (closing day). So if you do the math this would be my third time seeing the show and people have asked to me, "Why do you see it so many times?" my response has always been, “It’s like watching my favorite movie over again several times” That always seems to shut them up pretty quickly! So I obviously know the show very well and can give a good review…
I would have to say overall I enjoyed the performances from the tour cast much better than the Broadway, but I did miss some things from the Broadway cast, mainly acting choices. O ya Matt was out and Chase was on as Georg!
Christy Altomore (Wendla) - Great voice, her acting could be more innocent but overall she was just great!
Kyle Riabko (Melchior) - His acting and voice were just amazing, there was nothing really bad about him! His replacement will have a hard time filling his shoes.
Blake Bashoff (Mortiz) - I just fell in love with his Mortiz! He was so funny, compared to Gerard Canonico, who had a rocker edge to him, which was enjoyable! I like his voice, but do not love it but it is very nice and different.
The Girls - Gabrielle Garza (Anna), Kimiko Glenn (Thea), Sarah Hunt (Martha), and Steffi D (Ilse) - They were all great!! They sounded just very nice together, Mama Reprise WOW!!!! They had a lot of energy!! Kimiko was so spunky! Gabrielle just had this innocence to her which was nice to see. Sarah did a good job as Martha, the scene before the song was good, I really enjoyed her acting there but in the song I would have liked to see a little bit more. Steffi! What can I say her voice was just the greatest! I can look beyond her acting choices and just listen to her voice!
The Boys -Andy Mientus (Hanchen), Ben Moss (Ernst), Anthony Lee Medina (Otto), Chase Davidson(Georg) - Overall they were a much stronger group than the closing Broadway cast but I do love those guys! Andy was such a creeper! I really enjoyed him; the creeper approach was very funny! Ben has a great voice and he was perfect as Ernst, his acting choices were spot on! Anthony made such a small character have some substance to him, good voice! Chase was such a good Georg! I asked him at the stage door how many times he has went on as Georg and he said this was his 7th. After hearing that I could definitely see how he was settling into the role! His Touch Me solo was a little reserved but good! My Junk was spot on! Angela and him were just so funny!
The Adults - Angela Reed and Henry Stram – I have to say I was disappointed by the both of them. Angela could have done so much more for the characters, especially the school teacher! I think the problem was that I was use to Christine; she was just so funny she was totally hamming it up towards the end of her run! As for Henry the biggest thing was the scene between him and Moritz, when he was telling his father that he had failed. If I remember correctly there was a slap somewhere in there and that was not done, Blake just got down on his knees and looked like he was praying, I am not sure if Henry was not conformable with that, or was it Blake?
Over the last couple of days of school we read the script in my Drama 3 class and we learned about Mortiz decision to commit suicide, when Don’t do Sadness/Blue Wind came around my friend Stacie said "I just don't want to see him go, his story is not finished!" This is so true!
After starting the summer off with Spring Awakening my family and I went to Hershey Park in Pennsylvania for 2 days which was so much fun!!! The first day at the park we went to the water park at Hershey and it was so nice just to go down some water slides, sit in a tube and relax in the lazy river for awhile. After doing the water park for a couple of hours we decided to go onto a couple of rides in the park, the first ride we went on was the Wild Mouse. This roller coaster has some very sharp turns and my cell phone was in my pocket and after the ride it was not there! I had lost my cell phone!!! You never want something so bad until you cannot have it, and that is exactly what happened to me. I checked the lost and found several times and it was not there so I had accepted the fact that I had lost my phone for good!!! When we got home from Pennsylvania I got a new (better) cell phone and started adding numbers to my contact list and a day later we got a call from Hershey saying they found my phone and it was in perfect shape!!! So my mom gets a new phone!!!
This summer has been good so far and is getting better because I am going to beach for a long weekend which will be great!!!
